If you are a soccer fan (aka futbol) these are the two biggest teams in the world. Barcelona recently beat Manchester United 3-1 in the 2011 Champions League Finals so a win for United would feel good more than anything since this match was just a friendly and carried no real significance.
The two sides sat some key players because of injury or to rest for the upcoming season in their respective leagues which was a little disappointing but expected. Lionel Messi, the FIFA Player of the Year wasn’t even stateside, Dani Alves, Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique, and Carles Puyol were also not on the pitch. For United Dimitar Berbatov, Javier Chicharito, Rio Ferdinand, and Ji-Sung Park didn’t play either.

The match started out with some good energy, but Barcelona quickly went into their style of knocking the ball around and keeping possession which isn’t the most exciting for the fans. They try and lull you to sleep and then catch you while your napping. However, United got the first goal in the 22nd minute on a quick counter attack started by Welbeck and finished by Nani. Then in the 70th minute Thiago scored from 23yds out on an amazing curling shot into the upper right side of the net. There was nothing keeper De Gea could do and he was actually left flat footed. Only five minutes later in the 76th minute Michael Owen scored on a break away that was extremely close to being offsides.
Below is a video of the game highlights. Pause it at exactly 75:25 game time or 5:25 video time. As a Man U fan I will take that call, but I can’t say for certain if he was onside or not and I had a pretty decent angle from my seat. Final score was 2-1.
Victory United!
