Road Trip to Ponte Vedra Beach

June 3, 2016 By Chad Leave a Comment

In May I took a little jaunt down south with my lady to visit her family in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and stopped in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia to visit some old friends.

In Hilton Head we found a great Airbnb overlooking the Intercostal Waterway. They cooked up a full breakfast and let us use their bikes to ride all over the island.  We hit up The Dunes House on the ocean which had live music from Unicorn Meat, a duo that played guitar, violin and didgeridoo, San Miguel’s and World of Beer. The following day we biked 22 miles seeing Sea Pines Forest Reserve, The Plantation Country Club, Harbour Town Lighthouse and Coligny Beach where we stopped for a beverage at Tiki Hut and played Kadima. This was my first visit visit to Hilton Head and I really liked that it was so bikable.

I had also never been to Savannah so we did an overnight there as well. We met up with my friend in Forsyth Park after having lunch at Blowin’ Smoke then grabbed some beers at McDonough’s before walking around the city (yeah open container law). We saw are lots of historical parks and squares, a City Market where locals are selling goods and playing live music and so many beautiful southern homes. For dinner we went to Vic’s on the Water and breakfast the following morning was at Foxy Loxy Cafe.

The third stop and final destination was Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Yet another place I’d never been, PVB is a beautiful little town just outside of Jacksonville. The beach while technically public feels seemingly private because there are no beach accesses and all the oceanfront homes are private so you basically have it all to yourself. We road fat tire bikes 11 miles (22 round trip) on the beach all the way to Atlantic Beach, played Kadima, had great meals at Aqua Grill, Palm Valley Fish Camp, Cruisers, and Sawgrass Beach Club, found an awesome tree to hangout in at Guana Park on the Intercostal Waterway, drove the A1A to St. Augustine and also spent two days watching the best golfers in the world at The Players Championship at Sawgrass. If you like playing golf like me check out the best golf clubs for beginners men is a top review for amateur golfers.

Great road trip. Press play.
