I’ve been using uTorrent for many years, but I recently decided to try a new configuration and I’ve got to say it really works well for me. I will do my best to explain the setup.
What you will need:
Once you’ve installed uTorrent open the preferences and go to the Directories section. At the bottom you will see “Automatically load .torrents from”. I used my Dropbox account and created a folder called _torrents and pointed it to this folder. This way I can be anywhere on any computer and if uTorrent sees a new file in the _torrents folder it will automatically start the download and be ready for me on my computer when I want to watch it. I’ve also checked “Delete loaded .torrents” as you will no longer need the file once it’s loaded.
At the top you will see “Put new downloads in”. Choose a location on your computer that you want the file stored.
Now anytime you want files to be downloaded to this computer you just need to save your .torrent in the _torrents folder (or whatever you named it) under your Dropbox account.
This takes care of downloading from a computer but what if we want to use a mobile device? This is where uTorrent Remote comes into play. Once you have created your free account go to the Remote section in your client.
Check the box to “Enable uTorrent Remote Access” and enter the computer name and password.
Now download the app to your phone and tablet (Android Only at the time of this writing). When you open the app you will be required to enter your computer name and password. This is the same information you used to created your account and entered on the µTorrent client.

So now from your mobile device if you find a .torrent you want to download, just save and open it with uTorrent Remote and the file will automatically download via your uTorrent client. You can use uTorrent Remote to view the progress or pause the download. Once it’s finished you can choose to download the file to your mobile device.
Note: if all you want to do is watch the file on your mobile device download the uTorrent app and instead of using uTorrent Remote tell the .torrent to open with uTorrent. When finished it will be local on your mobile device.
If you have done everything correctly you should be able to download a .torrent from your phone or tablet to that device or to the computer listening for uTorrent Remote. You can also download directly to the client by saving your .torrent file to the specified Dropbox folder. To control you .torrents remotely use the uTorrent Remote site.
And there you have it. I hope you enjoy.
