A fitness app called Sworkit (Simply Work It) landed one of the largest investments ever from Mark Cuban on this past week’s Shark Tank. Sworkit, available on iPhone and Andriod, offers personalized workout videos, anytime, anywhere. I was immediately interested because I’ve been doing home workouts from Beachbody (p90x and Insanity) for about seven years and sometimes I’m looking for something a little different especially when I’m traveling.
After a quick setup you are able to choose from Strength, Cardio, Yoga, Stretch, a custom workout or Fit in 5 Workout. From there you can select a workout type followed by the number of minutes.
It’s workout time! The video starts by showing a person doing the movement with proper form. There is a 30 second countdown in the upper left, your total time counting down in the upper right, a progress bar across the top and video controls at the bottom.
With 10 seconds remaining in each movement it tells you what is coming next. After 30 seconds there is a 5 second transition that can be customized or turned off which prepares you for the next movement. At the end of the workout you get a summary of calories burned, the ability to share and connections to Google Fit and My Fitness Pal.
On my first tests I did Full Body Cardio for 15 minutes followed by 6 Pack Abs for 15 minutes and felt I got a very good workout. It definitely didn’t compare to p90x or Insanity’s programs in my opinion, but I think I will be using this when I travel and on days where I only have a little bit of time. Just as a sidenote you can do this anywhere with just a few feet of space and you don’t need any equipment.
There is also a premium version for $2.99/mo or $19.99/yr which removes the ads, gives you access to a trainer where you can ask questions, extra videos and the ability to create your own custom workouts.
Sworkit has done a great job in the busy workout app genre and with their investment from Mark Cuban I’m betting it only gets better. I saw there was a web player coming soon so keep a lookout for that.
